How to Design a Cinematic Instagram Post Using Shutterstock Create

Frame a photo with flashing cameras, glitzy stars, and film reels to give your social media feed a glitzy makeover. This is a really fun tutorial for giving selfies and fashion shots a cinematic twist, so anyone can feel like a movie star for the day!

In this quick and simple tutorial, you’ll learn how to design an editable social media template that can be reused for different photos. It’s super easy to create, and only takes a few steps to put together.

We’ll be using online app Shutterstock Create to design the Instagram post and, by the end, you’ll have a high-resolution JPEG or PDF version of the design that you can upload straight to your social media account.

Step 1

Go to Shutterstock Create and choose Instagram Post from the blank canvas options.

Choose a blank canvas from the options on the homepage.

Go to Images, and choose either Stock Photos or Upload to drop your own photo onto the canvas.

You can use a stock photo or upload your own image.

With the image selected, click on Effects along the top of the workspace. Select Toy Camera from the list of options, applying a generous Focal size over the subject’s face, and bringing in a Film Grain of around 30%, to give the photo a vintage movie star effect.

Step 2

Go to Images > Upload, and this time navigate to the folder of PNG illustrations in your freebie download. Upload the illustrations into the Uploads deck, then click on an illustration to drop it onto the design.

Position clip art around your photo, and don’t be afraid to get creative!

To add cinematic text to your design, click on Text, and from the text template options available, choose the gold “SALE” text effect.

You can format your own text heading, or use a gold-effect text template for instant glitz!

Adjust the Font of the text to Budmo Jiggler for a more movie-style effect. Edit your text caption to give the design a fun message.

Step 3

It’s really simple to reuse your design as a template, to create multiple post layouts. To do this, first go to File > Edit a copy.

On the new copy, click on the Layers icon at the bottom-right of the workspace to view all layers. Right-click on the photo layer and choose Replace Image. Upload a new image, or replace with a stock photo.

With the image replaced, you can edit the text caption.

Step 4

When you’ve finished working on your design, click on Publish at the top-right of the workspace. From here, you can upload your movie-themed design straight to your social media account.
