After being in beta testing for several months, Adobe Firefly, the software company’s suite of generative AI creation tools, is now available for use by all Creative Cloud users. Firefly encompasses a variety of AI-based tools, such as Text to Image, Generative Fill and Text Effects. Adobe Firefly is available as a standalone web application and incorporated into several Adobe software applications, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Express and Adobe GenStudio for enterprise customers.
Earlier this summer, Creative Cloud users had a chance to test some of Adobe Firefly’s capabilities through a free beta version of Photoshop that included Firefly’s Generative Fill functionality.
With the full public release of Adobe Firefly, several Creative Cloud apps will now gain a number of generative AI-based features. The public release of Adobe Photoshop now gains Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools. At the same time, Adobe Illustrator now offers a Generative Recolor tool that generates color variations of vector artwork based on text descriptions.
Meanwhile, Adobe’s AI tools are still advancing with new functionality. With a new beta version of Adobe’s After Effects compositing software, users can try out a new AI-enhanced ‘Roto Brush’ tool, which lets users cut out objects from video footage.
Creative Cloud users can also try out a range of Adobe Firefly generative AI tools via the standalone Firefly web application. There is no cost to use the Adobe Firefly web application. However, due to the computational resources required to run Firefly, starting November 1, 2023, Adobe will begin implementing a new ‘generative credit’ system for AI-generated content. Free accounts will get 25 generative credits per month, while users can pay $4.99 per month for 100 credits, access to Adobe Stock and no watermark on Firefly-generated images. Current Creative Cloud subscribers on other plans will also get a set number of generative credits included with their plan.
Users can still use Adobe Firefly features if they deplete their allotted credits, however the processing time is slower, the number of generative AI tasks might be limited or the outputted image resolution is reduced. Creative Cloud Pricing Changes
Alongside the release of Adobe Firefly, the company is also adjusting the pricing scheme for its Creative Cloud subscription service, with around a 10% price increase for several subscription plans for customers in North America, Central America, South America and Europe beginning on November 1, 2023.
Pricing for individual Single App Plans will increase by $24 for annual prepaid options ($263.88 per year vs. $239.99), while Individual All Apps Plans will increase by $60 per year for annual prepaid options ($659.88 per year vs. $599.88). Creative Cloud for Teams will increase by $2 per month, per license for Single App Plans ($37.99 vs. $35.99), or an increase of $5 per month, per license for the All Apps plan ($89.99 vs. $84.99).
Several Creative Cloud plans will not be undergoing pricing changes. Adobe states that there will be no pricing changes for Creative Cloud plans for Students, Teachers and Educational Institutions, as well as for customers in countries outside of North America, Central America, South America and Europe. Also, there will be no changes in pricing for Creative Cloud mobile plans, Creative Cloud Photography Plans, Adobe Acrobat plans, Adobe Stock plans, Adobe Substance plans or Adobe Express plans.
